Snowkiting
Snow kiting is the latest winter sport. Large highly controllable kites are used to pull kite pilots across snowy terrain by harnessing the power of the wind. Up here in Northern NY we have some of the best kiting terrain this side of the Rockies. Starting in November on good years we can have some great lake effect snow up on the Tug Hill. Up on the Tug Hill there is lots of terrain and deep powder. This past year for the OZONE kite festival we had over six foot of snow fall the week before the event. We also have a vast array of inland lakes which freeze over early in the winter. On the east end of Lake Ontario we also have the largest freshwater bay in the world with some of the most stable winds around called Chaumont Bay.
The area is blessed by acres of open farm land that the farmers have given us permission to ride on. WE STRONGLY STRESS TO KITERS DO NOT POCH ON PRIVATE LANDS . MAKE SURE YOU GET PERMISSION TO FLY. In doing this you secure being able to fly there and many other new places in the seasons to come. So come up north and fly in our kite flying paradise.
